SAP MDM is module built on top of SAP XI Netweaver which is used to consolidate master data objects from multiple different SAP remote systems. SAP MDM follows the consolidated model of collecting master data from several systems and to store the details in a central business partner repository. Consolidation allows for detection and a cleansing of duplicate and identical records. Don’t get confused this with centralized model or harmonized model. As of this writing SAP MDM supports the following master data objects (Check www.SAP.com for latest information).

Customers

Vendors

Employees

Materials

Products

Business partners

Who Needs SAP MDM?

Do you have multiple SAP or non SAP systems which houses the master data for example customers, vendors, partners etc., if the answer is yes then you might be needing it to consolidate your master data. For example your company and global subsidiaries have master data of customers which are housed in different SAP systems. There might be high probability of duplicate customers across the systems. SAP MDM helps you to remove that duplicates so that you can service your customers better. The same concept works for your other master data like vendors, materials, employees, product data and business partners.

Global companies who ship from multiple locations as mismatched master data/product data will affect your ability to ship orders from global points as there would be problems in ATP etc as they won’t recognize both of them as same products/materials.

Benefits of SAP MDM Module:

No Coding, No Transactions

Data Cleansing can be done. For example deletion of duplicate entries or merging of duplicate entries etc by defining rules.

Ability to modify huge number of data records.

Get data from multiple sources SAP, non SAP system, file or from XML and remember without coding.

Validation of data while loading the data.

Who should get SAP MDM Training?

SAP Netweaver/XI/PI Administrators/ Analyst

SAP Basis Administrators

SAP Master Data Management users

SAP Project Managers

SAP SCM/SD/MM Consultants

All SAP consultants will agree SAP is ocean; you can never master all the modules in SAP. SAP Sales & Distribution (SD) is the core module in SAP, and is the strong backbone of SAP ERP along with SAP Materials Management (MM) module. In SD you have lot of methods or mechanism which is used in all other modules. These are few of those methods or mechanism.

Pricing methodology, same condition records, scales.

Output mechanism through which you can issued print, fax or email outputs.

IMG Configuration methodology etc.,

Enhancement concepts like user exits, function exits and BADI etc.,

The reason why we have listed these here is similar kind of mechanism is followed in most of other SAP modules like MM, FICO etc so it would be easy sail for SD consultants to learn other SAP modules compared to others. We have listed down some of the modules SAP SD consultant’s can learn to improve their knowledge and fortify their current job position.

We wanted to write on article on this, then we Googled and we find there are tons of other articles and one which has listed all the points which we would have listed. Instead of reinventing the wheel we will give you that link.

SAP Certification: Does it Matter?

Still we want to add few points:

Having domain knowledge is more important than certification.

Ability to learn things very quickly is one more attribute. The most seasoned SAP consultants also don’t know all about their respective modules…so everyday is learning if you are handling projects in different domain/industry sectors.

Having a certificate may be mandatory in certain companies to work as SAP consultant, but we haven’t really seen any of those requirements.

Having a certificate may be a fetching point for permanent jobs as SAP analyst, we feel the benefit is negligible for SAP Contractors.
